5.      Ottawa Heritage (15 minutes)

Part of the discussion at the meeting will be about the removal of properties from the Heritage Register.  The requirements of the Ontario Heritage Act post Bill 23 mean that the vast majority of listed properties across the City, not just Sandy Hill which are listed on the Heritage Register, will have no heritage status after the end of this year. De-listing at this time will enable the City to re-list select properties and move towards heritage designation over the next five years, rather than being subject to the five year ban on re-listing which takes effect if listed properties are not designated by the end of this year. Heritage staff have identified ~700 properties City wide that are strong designation candidates. The majority of the properties listed (see link below) will be removed from the register at the end of the year.

The representatives from the City’s Heritage department will be at the meeting to answer questions regarding the Heritage Registry and listed properties in our neighbourhood.
