Ward 17 – Capital Jide Afolabi

Hello. I take the pledge.

Regarding enforcement, it is obvious that our community plans aren’t
legislated documents. As a lawyer, I see that as a weakness built into
the process – plans that took much effort and compromise can be
unilaterally altered overnight. This is why I am proposing a
community-driven Counter-Variance By-Law. If a predetermined number of
residents in the pre-identified area affected trigger my proposed
counter-variance process by signing a petition, the developer’s variance
would be squashed. This new “tool” in the community’s “toolbox” would
restore some balance between residents and developers.

Kind regards,
Jide Afolabi
