Sara Chivot Art

Originally from Northern Ontario, I have always drawn inspiration from the diversity, rawness and resilience of the landscape of my childhood and my surroundings. In nature, I can escape the chaos of the everyday and enjoy the beauty of my environment. This pull is seen in much of my work, whether in the form of a colour palette or shapes and lines resembling a landscape. I began painting very young and my work has changed from representational to more abstract over the years. In 1996, I studied visual arts and art history at the University of Ottawa. In addition to being an artist, I also teach in an Ottawa elementary school and enjoy helping kids explore and discover the exciting and therapeutic facets of art making.
I work mostly with acrylic paint which I find to be a flexible medium. Although I usually begin with an idea, I allow the paint and marks that I make to take the work in different directions. The unknown journey of each of my pieces makes the work exciting to me and forces me to take risks and grow as an artist. I often incorporate other mediums into my work to create interesting and unpredictable compositions. Throughout the entire process, I am constantly adding paint and removing or sanding back areas to create depth. I want people to connect to my work on a personal level, whether it be that it reminds them of a place or a memory, or simply that they find the painting makes them feel alive and inspired. I believe that creativity is in all of us and I hope that my art can spark aliveness in others.
75% of my stock is cards of my artwork at $7, 20% of my stock is paintings at $80 to $150, 5 % of my stock are paintings over $500 & cards.
