Meeting of the Board of Directors Monday, March 31, 2025

7:00 pm – 8:30 pm (in-person and virtual)

Present: Betsy Schuurmann (Chair), Jackie Farrow (Vice-Chair), Jerry Sabin (Secretary), Megan Reilkoff (Treasurer), Calla Barnett, Michael Barnes, Patrick Munro, Arto Keklikian, Mikaela Kennedy, Nicholas Harrison, and Marilyn Whitaker.

  1. Review and approval of agenda

Motion to approve agenda.

Moved by Fernando Seconded by Patrick. Carried.

  1. Word from the Chair

The Chair welcomed Peter Tilley, CEO of the Ottawa Mission, to attend the meeting.

The Chairs provided an overview of meetings she had attended during the previous month, including with the Sandy Hill Community Health Centre.

There are six members of the Board with expiring terms. The Annual Meeting will be held on May 29, 2025 at 6:30 PM at the Sandy Hill Community Centre.

  1. Word from the Councillor

The Councillor discussed her traffic calming initiatives. The office received compliments for its traffic calming efforts in the neighbourhood. Please send suggestions to the Councillor 

Vanierk 5k race was postponed to April 6 due to freezing rain.

Tenants of Sandy Hill (TOSH) meeting was held. Focused on getting protections for tenants in the neighbourhood. 

The Councillor visited Mission Old Brewery in Montreal, which is Canada’s oldest shelter. They are transforming their site into housing floor by floor. Following these efforts closely as a potential model for Ward 12.

The Councillor is in conversation with the Chair to write a joint letter to our federal candidates, in particular about the sixth crossing over the Ottawa River. 

EnviroCentre is giving out free trees for your front yard. You can pick them up at 200 Coventry. 

The Councillor received questions about her traffic calming budget and family doctors. 

  1. Focus Discussion: Ottawa Police Service

The Board received a presentation from Officer James Kennedy about various initiatives in Sandy Hill, including OPS’s new CamSafe program.

  1. Membership 

There are 212 current members of the Association. 

  1. Business arising from submitted Committee Reports

Motion to adopt the Treasurer’s Report for February 2025.

Looking to find a date for a federal candidates forum. Tentatively, Thursday, April 10. 

Move next meeting due to federal election to Tuesday, April 29.
